Abstract
Dear friends from Serbia and around the world,
I received the invitation to write this editorial with great pleasure, as a great honor but also a great responsibility. Presenting and representing SJSS is a big responsibility for me and I hope I will rise to the occasion.
A few years ago I received a message from the editor of a new journal. I had begun trying to present my work outside Brazil, and I recognized an opportunity. At the time, I could not envisage what was about to happen to SJSS in such a short time! I submitted my paper and recommended to a few compatriots to do the same. Something told me it was a great investment. Some of them seemed skeptical, but today many are looking up to SJSS to publish their work. The journal became a great "window" in which to exhibit research in sports sciences.
When reading the previous editorials (by distinguished colleagues before me) and the statistics, we can observe consistent growth. This is the result of an ethical and serious endeavor of the editors and the staff of the journal. It's nice to see. I believe that in future the impact of the publications in SJSS will be as high as that of the more traditional scientific journals in sports science. The keynote: it is not in distant future! As I said, this growth has to do with ethics, integrity and hard work. But it also has to do with Love! In the conversation with the editor-in-chief, we can see how SJSS is important to him like a family. Like the father (head of the household), he treats everyone with love, but is strict when necessary. Thus, the journal can continue to grow as well as its family. This is also beautiful to see!
Despite its name, Serbian Journal, it is international. The last few years have seen the publication of articles from almost all continents: Europe (Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, Finland, Germany, Italy, Portugal, UK, Spain, France, Macedonia, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Turkey); Americas (Brazil, USA); Asia (India, Japan, Thailand, Iran); Oceania (Australia, New Zealand); Africa (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Nigeria). OK, the Antarctic is missing, I know, but does anyone know of a consistent production of sports science coming from there? Excluding this little joke, the diverse origin of the work shows the internationalization of SJSS. If the goal was to become a regional journal, the editors have failed, it is now a global reality.
I can also point out that some of the leading researchers in sports sciences are present among the authors. I do not feel free to mention them lest I may forget someone and that would be bad. But we cannot fail to highlight some young researchers who, in the near future, will be the new generation of sports science leaders. They are scattered around the world, and SJSS has this feature, inclusion. It is important to encourage new talent and experts. A democratic and open journal does that.
Moreover, being a journal that provides the content for free, it brings scientific quality to everyone. In SJSS, the young students who begin the journey of discovery have an ally. The mature readers who need continual education and recycling of knowledge have a friend. All, without exception, can benefit from it.
Finally, there is still something for SJSS to become a leader, but I know it has been thought of by its family. What remains will soon be reached, those who bet on SJSS and join the family will be awarded.
As we say in Brazil,
Big hug!
